One Week, One Lab

Sci-Medley (Avekshan 2K23)

Are you ready for an exciting and intellectually stimulating day? Join us for our upcoming 1-day program designed exclusively for students like you! This program will consist of a range of activities that are sure to leave you energized and inspired for science.

First up, we have the 3MT Thesis competition where research scholars will have the opportunity to showcase their skills by presenting their 80,000 word thesis in just three minutes. This is an excellent platform to enhance your public speaking skills and demonstrate your knowledge in front of an nonspecific audience using a jargon free style

Next, we have the quiz competition to test your knowledge on a wide range of scientific topics. This would be an exciting opportunity to compete with your peers and build up your understanding of various subjects.

Finally, we have the Table Topics, Pecha Kucha, Shipwreck where you will be tasked with working collaboratively to solve hypothetical scenarios. This exercise shall test your problem-solving and teamwork skills and provide you with a fortuity to work together with other students. The heart of the day is a science exhibition; participants’ labs showcase their science projects, models, and posters.

One-day symposium

The one-day symposium "Advances in DNA/RNA Therapeutics" is being organized by the Organic Chemistry Division, CSIR-NCL, together with the Prof. K. N. Ganesh Endowment Trust. The focus of the symposium will be on the recent developments in the field of oligonucleotide drugs and nucleic acids from a chemist's perspective. The speakers include eminent and well-known experts in the field from India and abroad. The symposium is being conducted to honour Prof. K. N. Ganesh, former Chief Scientist and Head, Organic Chemistry (Synthesis) Division at CSIR-NCL, on being conferred the Padma Shri award in the field of Science and Engineering by the Government of India, and to felicitate him on the occasion of his 70th birthday.

Science Outreach

CSIR One Week One Lab Campaign has been announced by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Hon. Minister of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, to showcase the technological breakthroughs and innovations in CSIR Laboratories across the country. In view of this, Director, CSIR NCL has planned to keep the laboratory open for a week from 22-27th May, 2023.

We have reserved 25th May, 2023 for science outreach activities. If you are interested to participate in the hands-on activities then kindly register. On a first come first basis, first 100 students from each batch will be selected for hands on activity, fun-quiz and listen to interactive popular talks by eminent scientists.

The remaining students will be able to visit science exhibits, watch demonstrations in the areas of STEM, seek information on startup companies and look at the scientific models developed by our scientists.

Time of Entry to CSIR-NCL, Pune: 9:30AM to 5:00PM on 25th May, 2023

Entry is free with compulsory registration. First 100 registered students will receive a confirmation mail mentioning the batch time for hands on fun activities. Please mention correct email address.

The remaining students will be allowed to attend the popular talk but will not be able to participate in the hands on activity due to limited slots. These students can visit us from 9:30am onwards.

Morning-Talk time: 9:45-11:30 (followed by hands-on-activity to selected students) Afternoon Talk time: 2:00-3:00. (followed by hands-on-activity to selected students) Both the speakers will be different.

Live Demonstrations

Science comes alive through exciting and immersive experiences. At OWOL the demonstrations will feature Hydrogen Fuel Cell Test Station, Fuel Cell and Electrolysers working model in Clean Energy Theme, hands-on experiments like Nitration and extraction in the Sustainable Chemical Industry Theme, Ecofriendly Ganesh Immersion in Circular Economy, three wheeler auto-rickshaw running on DME fuel in C1 Chemistry and O2 concentration in Biotherapeutics theme. Skill Development Programs (SDP)

CSIR-NCL has embarked on implementing “Skill India” mission of the Government of India and has initiated the CSIR’s Integrated Skill Initiative program by offering number of skill development and skill upgradation courses to the graduate, postgraduate, un-employed youth in addition to the faculty, industry staff and workers. The main aim of these courses is to create the high-quality skilled workforce relevant to current and emerging industry need in the S&T sector through training/skilling in diverse areas at different National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF). It further aims at promoting entrepreneurship through skilling, Training of Trainers and Incubation centre. Since the start of SDP programs in 2017, NCL has tailor made around 43 different courses in both online and offline mode https://nclsdp.ncl.res.in/ . NCL SDP courses have benefitted over 750 candidates.

Startups Expo

The Venture Center (incorporated as the Entrepreneurship Development Center) is one of the top technology business incubators in India. Created in 2007 under schemes of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), Government of India, the Venture Center is hosted by the CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory in Pune. The Venture Center is structured as an independent, non-profit company and charitable organization supported by the DST- NSTEDB, Government of India and DBT, Government of India among others.

Venture Center has been recognized with various National and International awards like National Award for Technology Business Incubators AABI (Asian) Incubator of the Year Award, National Entrepreneurship Award, Biospectrum No 1 Bioincubator of India and National Award for Incubators for Nurturing IP in 2022.

Venture Center was created with the goal of nucleating and nurturing knowledge-based and inventive start-ups. It aims to empower and enable scientists, engineers, clinicians and other knowledge workers in pursuing technology, innovation and entrepreneurship objectives. Startups supported in FY 2021-22 have provided 1000+ direct STEM jobs and attracted more than ~ INR 96 Cr in risk capital investments and funding, reported a revenue generation of ~ INR 370 Cr.The start-ups supported in last 7 years are holding 120 unique patent families and have developed world-class services and products some of which are first in India and first in the world.
